The West Cambridge Data Centre consolidates the University of Cambridge’s distributed machine rooms into a purpose-built, energy-efficient facility designed for high-density research computing and long-term sustainability. Using a hybrid chilled-water cooling architecture and ColdLogik Rear Door Heat Exchangers, the data center supports mixed workloads ranging from 3.5 kW to 30 kW per cabinet while achieving a target PUE of 1.2. This unified cooling strategy eliminates the need for multiple systems, reduces carbon emissions by 10%, and delivers resilient, scalable infrastructure across four data halls. With £20 million invested, Cambridge has established a new benchmark for sustainable, high-performance university data centers.
