Yerevan State University

Yerevan State University, the Republic of Armenia’s largest and leading university, has opened a new Artificial Intelligence Data Center powered by Legrand infrastructure, marking a major milestone in Armenia’s digital transformation and scientific advancement.

Designed to support high-performance computing (HPC) and advanced AI research, the new facility houses a government-funded supercomputer equipped with 64 NVIDIA H100 GPUs. This capacity enables large-scale, complex calculations that were previously not possible within Armenia., significantly strengthening national research capacity.

The supercomputer will primarily support research groups working in artificial intelligence and machine learning. It is especially designed to handle projects involving complex neural networks and large language models, which requires substantial processing power. The platform will be used to develop and train advanced AI models, as well as to refine existing models for specialized scientific research and real-world applications.

Beyond its core AI focus, the supercomputer will also be available to scientific teams working in related disciplines with intensive computational requirements. This includes researchers in computational physics and materials science, where large-scale data processing and simulation capabilities are essential. The infrastructure will also help expand collaboration among universities and between the private and public sectors.

Building a Future-Ready AI Infrastructure

The university required a modern, scalable, and energy-efficient data center capable of supporting intensive AI and HPC workloads while allowing capacity headroom for future GPU expansion. At the same time, the facility needed to comply with strict European safety and efficiency standards.

Following a highly competitive tender process involving the world’s leading data center solution providers, Legrand was selected for its ability to deliver a fully integrated, end-to-end data center infrastructure that could meet challenging technical, spatial, and project timeline requirements.

With a total project investment of €3 million, the deployment presented significant challenges. The data center was installed within existing university buildings, requiring careful planning to overcome limited space, low ceilings, and complex routing constraints. Despite these limitations, the infrastructure was designed, verified, delivered, and installed within just six months, including only one month allocated for on-site deployment and commissioning.

Delivering Integrated Data Center Performance

To support the university’s advanced computing requirements, Legrand delivered a comprehensive portfolio of data center solutions, including:

Together, these integrated solutions ensure high energy efficiency, continuous 24/7 operational reliability, simplified maintenance, and scalable expansion to support future AI development.

Local Expertise Supporting Global Innovation

System integration and deployment were delivered through Legrand’s solutions ecosystem, with implementation carried out by ART-Group, a certified Legrand partner and UPS Service Center in Armenia, ensuring seamless implementation of the data center infrastructure.

The project was further strengthened by the direct involvement of Legrand’s regional technical specialists. Arsen Pogossian, Director of Legrand Armenia, provided local leadership and coordination, supporting the successful installation of the Zucchini busbar system. Alexey Ryizhenkov, Legrand busbar engineer, carried out insulation testing and verification of the Zucchini busbars to ensure compliance with safety and performance standards. Igor Dmitriev, Legrand UPS engineer, supported the commissioning and maintenance of the Keor Mod UPS systems, helping ensure long-term operational reliability.

This close collaboration played a key role in delivering the project successfully within tight deadlines and technical constraints.

The project has already strengthened Legrand’s presence in the region, contributing to further data center infrastructure projects, including deployments for financial institutions and AI data centers.

Ashot Berudjanyan, Corporate Solution Engineer at ART-Group, commented on the partnership:

We are proud to have Legrand as our digital infrastructure solutions partner. With several new data center projects planned in Armenia from 2026 onwards, we look forward to expanding our partnership with Legrand.

Supporting Armenia’s Digital and Scientific Growth

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan officially inaugurated the facility during a high-level ceremony attended by senior government officials, including the Vice President of the National Assembly, the Minister of Defense, the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, the Minister of High-Tech Industry, and university leadership. The opening underscored the strategic importance of advanced computing infrastructure in supporting Armenia’s economic growth, scientific research, and digital competitiveness.

This deployment represents the largest and most comprehensive data center solution delivered by Legrand in the CIS region to date. The project was made possible through close collaboration between Legrand’s global and regional teams, combining technical expertise, integrated product portfolios, and local implementation support.
