A historical expertise
At Legrand, growth has historically been fueled by innovation—with a steady stream of new, high value-added product launches—as well as acquisitions.
Since 1954 the Group has bought 162 companies in its core businesses, in complementary segments and in the most promising technological areas.
And since year-end 2004, it has made 56 acquisitions representing annual acquired sales of over €2.3 billion, with 65% of that figure from new business segments. In 2017 Legrand made the largest acquisition in its history with Milestone AV Technologies, a US frontrunner in audio-video (AV) infrastructure and power.
An ability to seize opportunities
Legrand teams are constantly on the lookout for potential new acquisitions, using their in-depth knowledge of local players in a fragmented market.
Staying close to the market is one key to the success of the Group’s acquisition policy. It makes it easier to locate and assess investment opportunities. It also makes the acquisition process go more smoothly and facilitates the docking process.
At the same time, a dedicated “Corporate development” unit oversees the acquisition process as a whole. It is also responsible for coordinating action by our teams involved in a given deal.
A well-defined docking process
Over time, Legrand has set up a clearly defined process for docking new acquisitions. The aim is to bring newcomers into the Group smoothly, harnessing all possible synergies while enabling them to achieve their own growth potential.
