When correctly implemented, both horizontal and vertical containment can achieve similar performance. 

Efficiency differences are more strongly influenced by whether hot-aisle or cold-aisle containment is used. Hot-aisle containment can achieve slightly higher efficiency because higher return-air temperatures improve cooling system performance.
