Why use green sockets ? Office equipment (computers, printers, photocopiers, coffee machines, etc.) can account for between 15 and 30% of the total electricity consumption of an office building. And their standby consumption outside office hours can be quite considerable too. Their share of the energy consumption of the building will be even higher after the mandatory areas of consumption (heating, air conditioning, ventilation and lighting) have been optimised, and it will represent the main area of consumption.

Solution: green sockets, exclusive to Legrand
In order to reduce the energy consumption of these devices, Legrand is offering truly “ecological” sockets. For office equipment whose power supply is switched off at nights and weekends, the annual saving is € 500. These special circuits are identified by the green colour of the sockets, controlled by a time switch installed either in the electric panel, or directly on the socket unit. This system enables the sockets to function at certain times. By switching off their power supply, for example from 8 pm to 7 am and during weekends, a 25% saving can be made.

Why adjust the lighting?
At 26%, lighting represents the main area of electricity consumption in the commercial sector in Europe. In order to reduce consumption, it is necessary to introduce presence detection, measurement of the light level threshold and sometimes also dimming. Optimising an area consists in particular of clearly identifying the areas that have different lighting requirements: access to natural light, hours of work, areas where people move around, etc. Thus, luminaires near windows must be controlled separately from those a long way from the windows.

Legrand solution: ECO2 economical sensors
Legrand, in the context of the Mosaic programme, is offering an innovation with ECO2 self-contained sensors that enable manual overrides to switch lighting on/off. They can be installed in both new and existing installations, and provide savings of as much as 55%. This new range of sensors has been developed taking into account the recommendations of the Grenelle Environment Forum. It is based on the know-how and expertise of The Watt Stopper, the Group's American subsidiary.
