New economies: long-term growth potential for Legrand.

Some 20% of the world’s population still has no access to electricity, and in many countries the middle class is expected to grow significantly. For Legrand, these trends point to attractive long-term growth potential in new-economy markets, as power generation and distribution infrastructures expand.

A balanced presence in new economies

Legrand sells products in nearly 130 new economies, and has production facilities and/or sales offices in over half of them. Legrand’s developement in these countries is very evenly distributed: at year-end 2016, new economies generated nearly 33% of Group sales, and India, the country with the largest share, accounted for only nearly 6% of sales.

Fueling growth with innovation and acquisitions

To gain ground in new economies, Legrand relies on its two growth engines: organic growth, powered by innovative and regular new-product launches, and acquisitions.

Targeted acquisitions

Legrand is also expanding in new economies by pursuing its strategy of self-financed, bolt-on acquisitions of small and mid-size companies that complement its business and have leading positions or proven technological expertise on promising markets.

Acquisitions of SJ Manufacturing (Singapore) in 2014, Valrack (India) in 2015 and Trias (Indonesia) in 2016 strengthened Legrand’s position in digital infrastructures for data centers, as well as in cable management and distribution cabinets.

In 2014 and 2015 Legrand acquired SJ Manufacturing (Singapore) and Valrack (India) both specialists in racks, Voice-Data-Image cabinets, and related products for datacenters and in 2016 the Group acquired Trias (Indonesia), a specialist in cable management and distribution cabinets. Adding these companies to the Group has enabled it to pursue targeted growth on promising markets. All three acquisitions are the perfect complement to Legrand’s offering in digital infrastructures a growing market powered by ever-increasing data flows in today’s buildings cable management and distribution cabinets.
