12/14/2015 14:00 Smart buildings: Samsung and Legrand finalize an international technological partnership

A coalition aiming to upgrade the experience of hotel guests through online solutions.

Samsung and Legrand today announced the signing of an international technological partnership with a view to developing new hotel-room management systems, offering greater comfort and ease-of-use to guests.

Legrand and Samsung will be joining forces to strengthen the interoperability of their technologies, helping to accelerating the development of Smart Building systems. Together they will be creating new user interfaces, which will build on the work of Samsung's LYNK HMS (Hospitality Management Solution) and Legrand's expertise in electrical equipment. This will allow hotel guests to manage their room's light settings, temperature and opening of doors, all from their TV set. Going forward, the solutions devised in this collaboration will also enhance communication between guests and hotel services (concierge services, taxi reservation, audio-visual support, etc.) for an improved customer experience.

A shared vision of technological developments in Smart Building construction

In 2015, Legrand launched the Eliot programme, aimed at developing interoperable online solutions that offer long-lasting benefits to businesses and private individuals alike. This new technological partnership with Samsung illustrates the dynamic expansion of the programme as well as the ambitions of Legrand in smart building construction and the Internet of Things. Both Samsung and Legrand have also been long-standing members of the Zigbee® Alliance - Zigbee® is recognised as the international leader in wireless, interconnected communications for the Internet of Objects.

With their LYNK HMS hotel solutions, Samsung offers an efficient hotel management system that optimises customer services. Samsung TV sets, specifically designed for hotel usage, are linked to wireless networks that give the user total control over the room's conditions; the information onscreen is constantly updated to maximise the client's comfort levels whilst reducing the room's energy consumption by 20 - 30%. In addition to the customization options offered to the client, this online system also automatically informs hotel staff of a client's departure and allows reception to monitor real-time room availability. Checking in and out is therefore a much swifter process, improving the customer's experience and satisfaction.

10/27/2015 18:00 Legrand officialises its partnership with La Poste so as to ensure compatibility of its connected offerings with the Digital Hub provided by La Poste

After the launch in July of the Eliot program designed to speed up the deployment of its connected devices offering and thereby take an active part in the promising development of connected buildings, Legrand is today officialising its partnership with La Poste. Together, Legrand and La Poste intend to provide their customers with offerings connectable to a universal platform developed by La Poste, the ‘Digital Hub’, thereby enabling access to new services.

As was stated at the launch of Eliot, Legrand continues to promote interoperability among connected devices in buildings. Having recently announced its cooperation with Nest Inc. designed to enable use of the Nest Weave protocol in its connected offering, Legrand is today announcing its partnership with La Poste.

This cooperation aims to share the programming interface (API) of Legrand solutions with La Poste so as to make it compatible with other connected offerings on the market via the ‘Digital Hub’. Legrand and La Poste will thus offer users new added benefits and uses (due to be presented at the CES in Las Vegas in January) while leaving them free to choose to add equipment gradually, as the need arises.

Legrand is a member of the AllSeen alliance, a leading global consortium seeking to promote interoperability among connected devices, systems and services, and a long-standing member of the ZigBee® Alliance. ZigBee® is the open global wireless standard for the Internet of Things.

10/14/2015 18:00 Legrand announces it is working with Nest Inc. and will be using the Nest Weave communication protocol in its connected products

Convinced that the Internet of Things is opening up a new era for connected buildings and having launched the Eliot program in July, Legrand is today announcing it is working with Nest Inc. and will be using the Nest Weave protocol in the development of its connected products.

As announced on 8 July 2015 during a press conference to unveil Eliot, its Internet of Things program, Legrand continues to promote interoperability between connected products in buildings. Legrand will therefore develop products for the home that use Nest Weave.

Convinced that interoperability is an essential condition for further roll-out of the Internet of Things in buildings , Legrand intends to promote “open languages”, capable of integrating and communicating with as many third-party systems as possible, thereby offering the user numerous benefits and additional options for use while allowing them the freedom to choose to purchase equipment at their own pace, gradually, as the need arises.

Legrand is also a member of the AllSeen Alliance, one of the most important international consortia campaigning for global adoption of Internet of Things products, systems and services based on AllJoyn technology, and historically of the ZigBee® Alliance (ZigBee® being the open global international wireless standard for the Internet of Things).

For the fourth consecutive year, Legrand is participating in the D’Days design festival in Paris.

This year, in accordance with the theme "Experience", the Flocoon Pixel concept will be exhibited at Le Lab by Legrand. To mark the event, Legrand called upon the Lille based design agency, piKs, who worked to make the experience all the more memorable for design fanatics coming to discover Flocoon.

PiKs's designers have created a playful universe around Flocoon by transforming the Lab into a "hut" to highlight one of the values of Flocoon: returning to a simpler time. The hut is decorated with pentagonal cards that passers-by can pick up, move and take away with them, just like Flocoon pixel switches.

D’Days is held from 1st to 7th June in Paris, and Legrand will use this opportunity to extend the exposition of Flocoon Pixel at Le Lab to an extra week (8th to 13th June).

Legrand’s teams were thus able to provide support:  with the choice of materials in line with local standards in Vanuatu, and the handling of orders and transport logistics for their shipment; with administrative procedures such as customs clearance and the issuing of entry permits for the various materials involved;
